Official Responce by Sevenoaks District Council..
Quote:Thank you for your e - mail regarding the closure of Castle Hill car park. It is unfortunate that the actions of a determined minority have resulted in the closure of this facility, however the District Council cannot afford the ongoing costs associated with clearing and collecting abandoned and burnt out cars, fly tipped rubble, tyres and other domestic waste from this site. This was also a favourite venue for vehicle crime, vandalism and other unsavoury activities which also caused the District Council to incur considerable costs: consequently the car park will remain closed. As you are probably aware, it is possible to access the Park from two other car parks located at the Visitor Centre and golf course, both of which benefit from CCTV coverage.

Closing the car park has not stopped the abandoned and burnt out cars - they are now burnt out by the motorway bridge! |

I am not sure, but if the car is burnt out in the car park, SDC (as owner) have to pay to remove it, but if it is burnt out on the highway, KCC (as highway authority) have to pay to remove it. Could this be another example of SDC closing something so that a cost is passed onto KCC? |
